ILMA’S PLAN

Ilma López’s priorities for a stronger Portland

I believe Portland should be a city where families, working people, and seniors can afford to live, where neighborhoods are safe and welcoming, where local businesses can grow, and where every child has access to a strong education. My approach is practical: listen to residents, spend taxpayer dollars responsibly, and focus on solutions that strengthen District 5 and all of Portland.

Ilma Lopez is discussing ideas to support organizations in Maine for people in need. Now she's running for Portland, Maine City Council District 5

Ilma: Why I’m Running

Portland Maine City Council District 5 - Ilma Lopez

I’m not running for City Council because I want to become a politician.

I’m running because I love Portland. I believe in this city and its people. Portland welcomed me and gave me the opportunity to build a family and a business. It’s my home.

I want everyone in this great city to have that same opportunity. As a parent, a neighbor, and a small business owner, I know what it takes to build a community – it’s about showing up every day, collaborating with people, solving problems, and earning trust.

Now I want to bring that experience and my commitment to customer-service to City Hall, to help create an environment where residents are heard, neighborhoods are respected, taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, and decisions are guided by common sense.

I believe Portland’s best days are still ahead – where families can afford to live and thrive in safe, welcoming communities, and local businesses can grow and succeed.

Just like my mother was to me, I want to be a role model for my children and show them that if you want things to improve, you need to step up and make a difference. And that's what I want to do as your District 5 city councilor.
